What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending June 07, 2020

So for the past few days I was in the mood for reading "completed short romance webtoons". Ranges between 30-40+ chapters, but reading webtoon is definitely faster than reading manga. Not perfect, but a good read.

<Love in April> Romance between two classmates. This was honestly quite a cute read! I would say it has a good slow romance build up. How do I put this in words... it does not have too many cliché premises. Even if there was a "love rival", she didn't turn out to be too annoying or evil. The characters in this series are likable.

<The Boy and the Sea> Romance between an idol and a fan. Usually, I don't go for this type of romance, as I, more often than not, drop them halfway lol. But it turned out to be pretty okay. Fun fact: the girl (fan) is not too obsessive, quite likable and level headed. The premise is abit cheezy (idol boy can't stand his idol life bc it's not who he is so he runs away to an island where he meets the girl), but overall, I would say this series is a whole lot better than the others that I've dropped.

<Hold my Hand> Although this series has too many used clichés (ugly girl is actually pretty girl / boy is new neighbour, new classmate becomes deskmates / hate and then love later / typical love triangle / many more which would bring spoilers), the only reason that it kept me going is that the main girl has a supernatural ability: she has x-ray vision. Whenever she touches someone, she can see them naked, or whenever she touches something, she can see through them. So she comes off as being OCD, not wanting to touch others and portrays herself as an "ugly girl". Idk how ugly in this series meant just wearing glasses and putting on freckles by using a pen... which doesn't make sense and just pure garbage, but the series has some funny moments and somewhat a solid plot, and a small plot twist.

<Her Time> I don't think I've ever encountered a story quite like this one, so I would say this is very original. Halfway through reading this series, it totally blew my mind. A husband had recently lost his wife (married for 10 years I think?) to an accident, and 6 months later, he decides to become a high school teacher. Guess who he meets? His wife, but as a student. How and why? I usually don't go for teacher-student romance, but this series offers more than it looks, and uses elements of space and time. The ending still left some questions... but it's bound to happen when you tackle things like space and time. Highly recommended.
