What do mature people do that immature people don’t?

I think a big one is the capability to think about the consequences of your words and actions, and then act accordingly. Not as some big decision-making sit-down session, but just in the small decisions you constantly make every day.

This leads to bigger, more consistent themes that I think we recognize in a lot of people who we see as acting mature:

  • Being a consistent and thoughtful friend
  • Scheduling regular maintenance for things that need it (like your car and HVAC system) to prevent catastrophic failures later on
  • Cleaning up after yourself at home so that a) you don't let it get gross enough that it's permanently damaged (which is surprisingly easy if you're a slob) and b) the other people in your home don't hate you
  • Managing your money somewhat reasonably
