This happened last Friday at MTG Origins draft.
I was playing BR and opponent was playing UB.
I'm at 9 life and he's at 8. It's late in the game so we both have no cards in hand and lots of mana.
My board: Akroan Sergeant, Shadows of the Past (3 creatures in my graveyard)
His board: Aspiring Aeronaut, Thopter Token, Deadbridge Shaman
He draws a Separatist Voidmage and plays it to bounce my Sergeant. He swings for 5, taking me down to 4 life.
I NEED to draw a creature, play two blockers to survive the next turn.
Well...I drew a Shambling Ghoul, which comes into play tapped so that doesn't help. Or does it...?
I replayed my Akroan Sergeant and passed the turn. On his turn, he draws. Swings with everything for the win.
I block his Deadbridge Shaman with my Akroan Sergeant. First Strike combat damage happens first, his Deadbridge Shaman dies, forcing me to discard my Shambling Ghoul. I now have 4 creatures in my yard, thus turning on my Shadows of the Past.
Before normal combat damage kills me, I activate Shadows of the Past, draining him for 2 to survive and put him at 6.
My turn, attack for 2. Drained him twice for 4 more and won the game.
