For my 15th birthday my mom made me a cake instead of buying me one because she liked to cook a lot. I remember I had an alright day up until around 7pm when it was time to open the couple presents I got and blow out the candles. At this point it’s worth mentioning my dad was a severe drunk my entire childhood and adolescence. All I remember was him bursting in and walking over HAMMERED. You could smell the alcohol 10 feet away. He smashed the cake and was rambling about something stupid (you could obviously tell it was about me) then proceeded to yell at my mom to ground me. She listened and told me to go down into the basement (where my room was) I never got an apology nor an explanation about what it was about. Every time I tried to ask him he would just pretend it didn’t happen. I was a generally good kid and I didn’t get in hardly any trouble so it really bugged me over the years. The reason I type this is because I like to think that my mom grounded me out of fear of what my dad would do rather then just because. Either way, I still think about it to this day and wish I had some clarity.
