What was the most unintentionally hurtful thing ever said to you?

Like most people, I've had a lot of awful things said to me. But, I remember most when I had a part time job (the first of two), right out of college, that I was working while in grad school. I had this awful boss, and when I quit after I graduated, she made me sit with her while going through resumes and said shit like "I need someone on the island, no more Brooklyn girls" and "Oh, look, here's one with a pronounceable name" and, the kicker, "you're leaving this job to go to Eastern Europe? Are you actually legal? Maybe a call to ICE will confirm?" I'm legal, but my mother hadn't been when she was in the States, and I'd mentioned that once to her, and it was just such a terrible thing to say to someone. I've had people say awful things to me out of ignorance or pity, but this was a PhD-educated woman just being nasty and spiteful for no reason. I was just this 23-year old trying to get a reasonably paid job and expand my opportunities and she was just trying to kick me down. It takes a really sick kind of individual to be that kind of miserable. A plus is that I am determined to never be that kind of woman.
