What movie actually got a good remake?

Dozens of Sherlock Holmes, works of Shakespeare, movies all remakes

Yes. Adapting the same story again is a remake.

Is Batman Begins a remake of Batman 89?

No. It's a different story, therefore it's not a remake.

Nope. I can do this all day. They are not remakes

You can do it all day, and people will argue with you all day, because you're expecting them to accept your definition -- your personal definition, that only you care about -- as absolute. They won't. Most people consider a re-adaptation a remake. And should. If it's the same story, it's the same story.

The alternative would be that a movie is only a remake if the original movie wasn't an adaptation, and that definition is so limiting as to be silly.
