In what movie did you want the villain to win?

You missed the point that harvesting what we need is not a function of modern human society. We consume all that we have access to. Also harvesting the unobtanium is a for profit business, not solely a humanitarian effort, even if it'll save the planet and literally everyone.

I still believe we would leave to occupy certain locations of Pandora, if at least for leisure. Someone said it before: it's apart of our instinct to travel the stars. Once we have the unobtanim all space travel would be easier and I doubt the time it takes to get there would be much of an issue because it's an extremely exotic location. Even more so than the planets and moons in our system. Mega corporations run this planet, of course they would capitalize on that, no matter the cost.

What's there to keep us from setting up vacation spots with terraformed locations, highly secured militarized security, extinct hostile indigenous species, and other minimized risks? The poisonous air and hostile wild life wouldn't pose much of a threat once there's better security than the areas we saw in the movie. And we both know that'll be easy once reinforcements come.

Also if I recall correctly, that war was solely funded by only one of those mega corporations. Imagine the havoc caused with at least three more, the Na'vi would be wiped out in days.

You have way too much faith in the good efforts of people/beings that clearly doesn't exist in either reality. There has never been a moment in our history where a massive invading (and highly militarized) force simply took what they needed and left. We always grow more ambitious of the land we conquered, set up shop/colonies, and eventually stay for the long run. This isn't taking into account the industries dying to make profit off saving the planet or more scientists trying to figure out the mysteries of that place.

Who knows what other resources are on that moon-planet? Could Earth really be saved in time to harvest/mine, transport, and implement the unobtanium? Is there really a reason to stop exploiting/exploring this moon-planet?

The fauna and flora haven't all been checked for medical/pharmaceutical uses. Maybe we can build more artificial ways to tap into the planet's sentience without the use of avatars. Or even more finding out how to domesticate and communicate to animals like the Na'vi, again without using avatars.

We're staying, with or without a dying planet. Up until we kill this one too.
