What is much less of an exact science than most people realize?

I always find this discussion a bit confusing. I consider myself a cis woman, although I'd probably kill a person in cold blood if it meant I could become a man and I am frequently very unhappy that I'm a woman. But I'm unhappy because of socially enforced gender roles, as well as biological realities that transitioning wouldn't change (e.g. I am physically tiny and weak, even for a woman). I'm confused what it means to have an "innate mental identity about being male or female." I only "feel" like a woman because I'm in a female body being treated by society like a woman and have had formative experiences in that context. It feels very much externally imposed on me by society, it isn't something that I generate within myself. But I'd not call myself agender, gender fluid, etc.

I'm not doubting that others have gender identities that don't line up with their body, but I find the concept really hard to grasp because (1) I am extremely angry, sad, and upset about being a woman when I do not actively stop myself from thinking about it but (2) I don't have any understanding of what it means to have some kind of innate gender identity.
