What new diabetes technology is coming in 2018?

People getting Eversense put in place, and seeing their reactions and results. 3-month CGM sounds pretty good, but I just got my arms to look decent — not really wanting to cut them open and insert a capsule at this time.

Whatever the new integrated system is from Lily — with the pens sending signals to a monitor or some such. Again, it sounds expensive and complicated, but hopefully some ideas will come out of it. I have a relative who just doesn’t get why she should cut carbs, nor will they save enough for a CGM, when they can afford to; and she had a hypo recently that was severe — it shouldn’t be that it’s still unaffordable and inaccessible for so many people who need the constant data and communications with other family members.

Mostly I’d love to see one of these alleged noninvasive testing apps/devices get into the real world so we can see if they are hype or have potential.

And also if more trials would finish phase 3 or even Phase 2 and publish some data.

I don’t think cure for autoimmunity is around the corner but I think there will be either temporary beta cell implants or treatments of different types that offer improvement by a few percent here and there — either by slowing destruction / dampening the immune response, or by supporting beta cell growth of some sort. And there’s enough genomes on chips out there and enough computing speed by now that we can be more clear and specific about the genetic components. I get that we keep poking at the pieces of the puzzle but can’t figure out how they fit together. Mess with this molecule or protein and you cause a different consequence. But why can’t we even identify all of the pieces by now?
