What is a nice city to live in?

We need more details. Nice how? What's the income bracket you'd prefer? What kind of setting or climate or cultural feel to it? I just spent time in not both Dallas & Austin, Texas and I liked it there. The live music scene and food truck culture is wonderful. The people are ok, but being from California I just found them different. I'm not used to Southern accents or people trying to strike up conversations because I'm standing near them, but in all they're still very nice. A lot of Californians are relocating to Texas (especially Austin) so they aren't backwards or weird about race, imo. But it's still mostly white people around. It's super humid in the summer and Austin gets crazy floods sometimes...

Oakland is actually pretty cool. Oakland was the first city I went to that had an awesome history that the residents were proud of (Black Panther party) & was still artistic and gritty. The first time I visited First Friday's (held on telegraph ave in Oakland the 1st Fri of every month!) I fell in absolute love. I saw men standing in circles freestyling on one corner and live bands on the opposite. People selling homemade jewelry and a diverse crowd of people just getting along well. Hipsters are moving in and gentrification is a thing, but there's still a great vibe to Oakland. However, I lived in Berkeley so I can't attest to what living in Oakland is actually like. Some parts are too rough. Berkeley is a very boring/quiet/expensive city to live in, though. Public transportation in the Bay Area is awesome and you don't even need a car, you can do find getting around with a bike or on the BART or ac transit. The Bay Areas climate is pretty cool year round the closer you are to the water. San Francisco is across the Bay, but hella expensive to live! Cool for a day of fun. My friends and I even did a scavenger hunt in SF one day that the city held. It was all over & we found cool hidden gems like restaurants and stuff during it. SF is romantic and beautiful around Christmastime, imo. But I love the Bay Area during Fall/Halloween.

Long Beach, Ca is a great place that's diverse and cool and there's lots to do and people are generally friendly and chill. There's a nice art scene, but their first Fridays generally suck. I like Long Beach a lot. There's parts that aren't too expensive and really nice parts as well. Crime is worse in certain parts but not the worst for LA county. Parking is HORRIBLE. Public transportation is actually pretty good. LB buses go to surrounding cities too.

I'm biased, but if you can afford a cute area in Southern California I think it's the best place to live. It's super packed and the job search is competitive, but I think of it as an adult playground. You can do anything you can imagine here for fun and be whoever you want to be without judgement. You can meet all kinds of people and the public transportation is pretty decent. The mountains get snow, the beaches are warm, you can drive to Vegas in less than 5 hours. The downside is the air quality is bad and we have no seasons, it just goes from warm to very hot in the summer.
