What non-European countr(ies) - not through colonies - does your country have an interesting diplomatic relationship with?

The Netherlands and France. Belgium took its independence from the Netherlands in 1830 and was faced with great resistance from the Dutch. Over time, relations have improved and it’s now a kind of love/hate relationship. However, I think the francophone part of Belgium has kind of lost touch with the Netherlands, mainly due to an increasingly worsening relationship with Dutch speakers, itself due to political tensions between the two sides, which resulted in a sort of reject of the Dutch language and anyone / anything related to it by the francophones, therefore they lost contact with the Dutch. The next closest nation to them is France, from being a neighbour and sharing the same language. Again, this love/hate relationship developed between them. That is I think in most part due to the perceived arrogance of the French and the feeling of superiority they express to Belgians (obviously I might not be totally objective).
