what do people mean when they say a Catholic church needs to be more progressive?

I disagree. How would you explain the cases of heterosexual CSA then? I’ve looked at the documents released by my Archdiocese (Los Angeles) on their cases, and most instances it made people made no difference what the sex of their victims were. What was the same about all of them were that they were all specifically sexually attracted to children. How it got so bad was that the Archdiocese did not immediately remove these offenders from public ministry, and in many cases refused to involve law enforcement to investigate and charge them.

I’ve looked at Cardinal Mahoney’s correspondence with the Servants of the Paraclete over 10-20 years and in many cases where they advised and begged him to not return a person to public ministry, he did not. There were even petitions by other priests to remove these people but he still didn’t listen. The psychiatry documents from the Servants even mention multiple instances of narcissism and psychopathic behavior (these men were considered charismatic and trustworthy by many) and disturbing sexual disorders among them. To amount this to only being about homosexual priests and celibacy is dangerous and irresponsible.
