What was the point of building the portal next to Ikora?

Ikora was toying with us all along. She knew the portal didnt go anywhere, she just wanted to see the depression in our face when we realized it was just an empty portal. The portal leads to our failures and deepest, saddest thoughts which is why mechanically it's broken but from the outside it appears fine and ready to use. It also symbolizes a pantry. Your grandmother has been stockpiling the pantry with goods and foods that she got from Trader Joe's, similar to how Ikora was building the portal. You dont see what she's putting inside it but you just assume it's good. You see the pantry, it seems fine from the outside. But you approach the pantry and open the door. It's all filled with cat litter and dog bones. You fall to the floor crying hysterically. Your grandmother walks over to you and Pat's you on the head, she slowly brushes your hair like a horse's mane. "Hear," she says, "eat this." She hands you a doggy biscuit, you're starving and theres no food near you for miles. You nibble on the biscuit, tears running down your face. "There, there" she says as she fills up the litter box. You look around you. This is your life now. You are the cat.
