At what point do you give up on a book?

I give up on a book when I realize I'm getting nothing out of it.

If I'm not enjoying something and I gain nothing by continuing I've started tapping the mat. Life's too short and there's thousands more at my local library. I'm willing to read books that make me angry or feel like a chore if at least I feel there is some growth to be had but if there's not even that? It's over, you've lost me.

I've also started giving up on books quicker, so I don't get sucked into a sunk coast fallacy. I don't have to love a book by the third chapter, but I do at least have to not dread picking it up again. I don't think you need to endure an entire book before you can safely say "you know, this isn't for me."
