At what point will solar be worth it again?

Just under 10K - but this can vary depending on what you want - for instance I got monocrystalline panels and specific battery, tricky roof for scaffolding etc.

I have seen 2.4kwh batteries for as low as £350 each, but those days are gone. The UK generally has 3 major wholesalers that all installers order from, unless they have direct contacts with manufacturers.

It was a fully accredited MCS installer, which is necessary if you want to do exports. (The utility companies will want to see the installation certificate, its not actually defined by the DNO). Exports are a bit of a red herring, since you want to massively focus on self consumption.

I was very surprised by how simple the system is, especially these hybrid inverters. Performance is also noticeably better than earlier systems I have seen (this must be the technology moving forward, the MPPT tracking seems very well optimised and system response time to loads is quick).

If you have time, one of the wholesalers has a online solar project software called easypv; you can design a whole system on there fairly easily and have a look at costs and performance projections.
