What is the poorest financial decision you have ever seen somebody make?

It's getting pretty common in Indian culture to spend this much on weddings. It's basically down to these factors:

  • weddings being key to traditional culture (I mean, basically it's all some people live for, to see their kids get married)
  • the Indian caste system (making people overly competitive with each other, which extends to those in the same caste and even in their own extended families)
  • large families equal very large number of guests (500+ is normal)
  • the bar being set unreasonably high by those with a lot of money
  • media influence (Bollywood)

Indian weddings are basically a subculture unto their own, which is has spiraled into the ridiculous. But hey, at least we have the best wedding parties.
