FAQ for /r/Redefinition
Welcome to /r/Redefinition. If you are here, it's probably because you were just added and have a lot of questions. Hopefully this contains all the answers you are seeking.
What is this?
/r/Redefinition is an experimental community embedded within reddit. It contains a bunch of other members that, just like you, were once added and confused. There is little to no actual moderation, the community practically moderates itself, so as long as you don't have explicit bad intentions, moderation shouldn't be strict; People are free to have different opinions and can still talk about it in a way that you wouldn't this dude i know outside of reddit.
Okay, but why was I added? Why me? Who chose me?

You see the PM saying you were added was sent by /u/ Redefiner. This is a cool script written in Python that runs every week (on Thursday) and add random users. You just happen to post at the right time, and got noticed by/u/ Redefiner . There is no why, don't question it. You were simply added.

But then, why is everyone staying and active?
That's the beauty of it: Every week, while adding people, Redefinition-bot also kicks people who have been inactive. The range is about a week, it can vary depending on when you last posted in the week but 7 days is a good rule of thumb. As long as you are active at least once a week, you will be safe. Comments also count as activity. You don't have to make a submission every week, though it is custom to make one to introduce yourself on your first night.
So basically, the subreddit is full of active, contributing members because the non-contributing members are always "recycled" and replaced by more active users on the long run. The subreddit is full of active people because that's the only way it can exist.
What if I'm not able to post for more than a week?
It is understandable that at some point, reddit isn't a priority and it could get you kicked because you forgot to post. If you noticed that you were kicked, you can always message one of the moderators, or simply send a message addressed to /r/Redefinition and ask to be added back in. The point of the subreddit is to keep interested people in and disinterested people out, the 7 day rule is just a tool for that end; if you care enough to ask to be back, you are interested enough to be added back. The only real consequence of being kicked is you lose your number flair.
What exactly do we talk about?
About anything you want.
By default the subreddit is restricted to text posts only but you obviously can share links in a text post as well.
Can people outside the subreddit see what I write on here?
No they can't. In other words, you are free to truly talk about whatever you want without fear that someone stalking you might see it on your userpage. The subreddit is set to private; you can try to access your userpage from another account or simply by logging out, and the posts/comments you made in the subreddit won't appear.
Of course, even if it's a private subreddit, it's still filled with internet strangers, so remember you are responsible for your own personal information. Don't share anyone's personal information either.
So is it like a secret subreddit?
You decide what it is. See for yourself, talk to people, enjoy your stay and have fun.

What are the numbers next to everyone's name?
It is simply your position in the list of Redefinition members. It is a cold chronological list and isn't artificially altered in any way. For example, if you are #89, it means you are currently 89th in the list of members and there are 88 users below you (excluding the mods). Every week when the bot runs and kicks people, it updates everyone's flair. If member #56 forgot to post, he is kicked, and his flair is now a red dot. Member #57 becomes the new #56, #58 is now #57, etc. and you are now #88! In other words it shows your ancientness in the subreddit; #4 has been in the subreddit way longer than #75 for instance.

Why do people care about what number they are? No exact reason. This system was installed and people liked it so it remained. It is human nature to try and prosper towards the desired #1 spot. When you join, you have a high number. This number changes every week until you reach a spot where everyone below you is an active member, then your number changes every month or two, it becomes a rare event that makes you rejoice but also sad at the same time that someone below you got kicked. You eventually get to know most of the low numbers and then one day, one of them gets kicked. The lower the number, the sadder the kick. That is, if they don't come back. If they do come back, they will be reassigned a new higher number.

You have a blue flair on your first week; this allows you to be easily recognized as a new member so others can welcome you. After your first week, if you survive it, your number becomes green.
