What random person that you met once and never saw again do you still think about?

This one always stuck out in my mind as being oddly memorable.

I was a junior in high school and was spending my spring break with my parents, looking at colleges I was interested in. I don't even remember which college/state we were visiting, but we had just got off a train and needed to catch a taxi to the campus we were visiting.

So we walked out in front of the station, where a short line of taxis was waiting to pick people up. We walk up to the first taxi, which is regularly-sized and ask the driver if he can take us there. He looks at the 4 of us with our big suitcases and makes up some excuse about not having enough space. Oddly enough, the same thing happened with the next couple taxis we tried. Got a little frantic at this point, because our train had arrived late, and the college tour was starting soon.

Finally, we walk up to this African guy (I wanna say his accent was Ethiopian) and ask him if he's willing to take us. I think he's seen us try the first few taxis and gives a small shrug after glancing at us.

"People is people." And opens the doors.

It was a pretty inconsequential encounter, but that phrase has always stuck in my mind. Everyone would get along so much better if we just reminded ourselves daily that "People is people."
