What to read when traveling solo and eating alone?

To be honest, I laugh at and judge all the “bring a book” recommendations I see here. Firstly, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about you, especially not for something as simple as dining alone. Secondly, not everyone likes to read for leisure. If you like to read as a mechanism of distraction, then you wouldn’t be asking this question. Thirdly, burying your face in a book in an unfamiliar place is just hiding from what’s going on around you. Quit being a bitch. Eat your food. Drink your coffee. Watch what’s happening around you. Seeing different cultures is what travel is about. How can you do that if you’re hiding in a book?
