What role do the four towers around the falcon 9 launchpad play?

According to the company that sold it, the copper tips that extended up from the roofline and chimney and literally "sprays" ions into the air neutralizing any charge buildup creating a very large neutral charge dome of sorts over and around the house so lightning looks elsewhere for a place to strike with the appropriate charge to attract it. That was what I was told and read about on the internet. Our house was on the peak of a ridge (about 80 ft above the average height of the terrain to the foundation). We used to get jolted frequently and often by these brilliant white flashes of lightning where the huge deafening thunderclap coincided with the flash. The flash seemed to come from all sides of the house so I suspected these were strikes very near and my favorite idea was the underground power distribution system but I never knew. After installing the system, we didn't have those any more. All the lightning had a second or two pause before the rumble of thunder. Because of the frequent severe lightning in Missouri, everthing in the house was protected by a surge protector except for just one or two fairly trivial things like the charger for my camera batteries or the 220 appliances like the electric stove and dryer or builtin stuff like the dishwasher but I did have a surge protector on the washer and the refrigerator and microwaves. In addition to all the surge protectors (actually they were rated for lightning) we also had a whole house surge protector and it got zapped several times and was replaced each time (under warranty) but nothing in the house suffered - maybe because of all the surge protectors everywhere. After the strike, we did not have any surge protectors fail for the 9 years that followed.

I have worked around computers all my life so I am a real "nut" about surge protecting or using a UPS on literally everything and I remain so.

When I moved to Florida, I had a similar incident that destroyed every surge protector and UPS in the house but almost everything survived that was plugged into them survived.

How the lightning suppression system worked I cannot explain but I love to watch lightning and we just didn't have the intense close lightning around our house after it was installed. Apparently the system worked.
