What ruins an otherwise good restaurant experience?

Only time i gave a vengeful tip was for plainly rude service. Fresh out of highschool me and 3 friends went on a road trip. At some point we went to an outback steakhouse, and they literally just opened as we had been driving all night.

Our whole 30-40 minute meal we were the only ones there, and seated at the far end of the resteruant from the kitchen...maybe 30 feet. The waitress stayed in the kitchen, so after 10 minutes my buddy went over there and asked if we could order and get water.

Waitress comes over and is acting like we are ruining her morning. Doesn't bring water or napkins/flatware, so we order and ask for water again.

We dont get water until our meals are brought out. And she brings the appetizer at the same time as the entrees we order. She just leaves them on the tray that she set on the next table over.

Frankly we were shocked, since two of us worked as waiters. But whatever, people have bad days. Maybe someone called out sick, or she works another job and is at the end of a long day. But we still dont have the flatware, so the same guy goes back over to the door to the kitchen and askes for some.

She tells him that the kitchen is not for patrons (he didn't go in, just to the doorway) and she would be out to check on us.

So we sit there with no utinsels to eat with, kind of laughing at the absurdity of the service when she yells that we need to be quiter as this a family establishment. Nobody else is in the resteraunt but us and the staff (maybe just her?)

We literally left a penny each with a note that that was her tip for service, and we would not be paying for our water and meals as we all got steaks but did not get a chance to eat any of them without flatware.

We had picked at the blooming onion and some of our fries, and i felt bad about not paying for that. But we left our note, all went to the restroom and left (5 minutes at least) and she hadn't even peeked out to check on us.

Went to jack in the box and the service was much better.
