What’s an instance where you knew someone was lying but kept asking them questions to see how far they would go with it?

This kid I went to high school with was a notorious liar, and would make up crazy shit like actually being a year older, being the original guitarist for sevendust, shit like that. One of my favorite things to do was to get stoned and see how deep he would get into these obvious lies. I’d ask questions for like an hour and he’d still go with it. The dedication was quite the marvel.

Years later, I saw him at a bar and it was his 25th birthday. I was like, “Oh, but really it’s your 26th though, right?” He replied, “No not really, I just used to lie a lot back in the day.”

I was fucking devastated. I mean, his lies were super obvious, but to finally let the legend die just seemed like such a bummer. It’s like when that dude from the Bigfoot video came clean and admitted it was a fake. It’s like, bro, we know it’s a fake, it’s just fucking awesome.
