What’s the biggest culture shock you ever experienced?

Right. I don’t let my five year old walk around or go places by herself. She’s five. I have to remind her to look both ways before she crosses the street. She plays in the backyard by herself, but it’s fenced in.

It’s not even that there are psycho people everywhere, it’s that they could be anywhere, and it only takes one whacko to hurt or kidnap your kid. There are women who have been held in captivity their entire lives who were plucked off the street in broad daylight coming home from school.

I would never be able to forgive myself if something happened and I could have prevented it. I know it’s incredibly unlikely, nearly unheard of, but I can’t help it.
