Even though it's awkward, I learned it's still better to be asked than not at all. If someone I liked asked to kiss me, I'll just smile and move in for the kiss.

I remember previously telling a group of friends I was on vacation with that it's awkward being asked to be kissed, that it was better to just go for it if the mood is right. A "friend" there took that as a sign to skip consent all together. He persistently knocked on my hotel door one night then kept trying to lean towards me for a kiss even though I kept telling him to leave. He didn't ask for permission to kiss anymore, he just kept trying to catch my face. I couldn't close the door because he was blocking the doorway with his foot. Rejected his fake nice guy confession after that.
