What’s something completely false that your parents told you as a child?

Similar with me, but for a less jerk reason. My mom would take the money with the intent on saving it for me like she'd said, but then bills would come and we were pretty darn poor. The money would end up getting borrowed to keep the lights on or buy groceries, with the thought that she'd pay it back and I'd never even notice it had been gone. But by the time there was any money to pay it back it was bill time again, and there was no money again, so many months later when maybe she would have been able to pay it back she'd have forgotten by then.

I understand why she did it, but it was a bit frustrating to never have my own money to do anything with. Could never practice saving it up or choosing what I wanted to buy.
