What’s something you recall your NParent saying that made you start to understand something was very wrong?

There was a ton I overlooked until I looked back much later. A few things come to mind.

My parents are divorced. My dad paid a huge amount in child support. My sister and brother didn’t want to move in to my step-father’s house, so she left them in an empty house and moved just me. They had nothing. No food. No furniture.

My step dad was verbally abusive, by it was always my fault for talking back.

They wouldn’t give me a key to the house, so I often had to wait outside for someone to come home. Then I started breaking in. They were pissed.

She was supposed to be saving money for me for college. Instead she bought a jag and my step dad got a new truck. She told me that it was only fair that I got nothing since my siblings got nothing either.

Then, the summer after high school graduation, she asked me what my plans were for college. She literally had no idea. I think old her I was starting in the fall. She told me that I need someplace to live in the interim, because she was moving out of state at the end of the month. I had no idea. I ended up going to live with my dad again for the first time in like 8 years.
