What’s the strangest conversation you’ve “accidentally” eavesdropped on?

This is the opposite advice than what I received when I went to the training class for a concealed carry permit. The retired police officer that was running the class stated that a .22 doesn't always have the necessary stopping power to protect yourself.

He went on to tell a story from his policing days of a woman who carried a .22 for protection, a rapist attacked her and she shot him in the heart. He proceeded to continue raping her, and then ran off. 2 days later the guy showed up in the hospital for the wounds, and he did later pass from complications. However, I wonder if it would have been different if he had went for treatment sooner. To me, it sounds like a .22 wouldn't necessarily be enough to guarantee a kill and if your job is to assassinate someone you would want a larger caliber. But what do I know about guns, I'm just a boxing promoter.
