What’s the time you’ve heard someone speaking about some thing you’re knowledgeable in and thought to yourself “this person has no idea what they’re talking about “?

Well, last Christmas my white dad stated that traditional minstrel shows, as done by white actors, were never racist and there's no need for black people to be offended by them.

My mother is black (they're divorced), so I've had a whole lifetime of major and microaggressions levelled my way due to my being mixed, and am very aware of the history of racism in Western society. Besides that, my MA in English Studies covered the history, society, and literature of the English-speaking world from Beowulf to BLM. The absolute blatant racism of minstrel shows was covered, too.

My sister has an MA in anthropology and knows A LOT about racism, tribalism, and historiography.

Our dad is the epitome of a Boomer, and an ass to boot.

I'm not sure if we managed to get through to him that minstrel shows and blackface are racist, but we at least shut him up for a bit.
