No, it's even LESS gendered than that. In Latin languages there is grammatical gender for all nouns. The same thing can have one word name that is feminine and a synonym that is masculine.

The masculine form is always the default plural. The French as a group are les Francais (apologies for lack of accent). It includes men, women, non-binary people, neonates, etc. Where appropriate the default can be modified to grammatical feminine, for example if you were talking about all the French who identify as women or girls you could do so. A person who does not wish to represent a socially defined gender can always just use the default.

"Guys" actually is masculine and has many French equivalents, and a woman might feel excluded from credit if such a term were used (or not but it could happen); in French or Spanish there also terms like "thanks to the entire team". And in French the most common word for "team" is grammatically feminine.

I'm progressive but Latinx really grates on me because it shows intense self-absorption and fake effort to appear better than others. Lacking a basic clue about how the extremely widely used languages of neighboring countries and regions work, and effort is made to force an inappropriate change in use.
