What’s your job and what’s a typical day at your work like?

I work for an academic society not for profit organisation. I love it. I manage the activities of 14 academic ‘sections’ including archaeology, marine biology, history, botany among others. There is no typical day- one day I could be handling flint tools from Paleolithic archaeological sites, the next people are bringing bones and all manner of items in for identification, accessions to the museum collection, to general historical enquiries about the Island I live on. I also manage our bookshop where we stock local interest and academic publications as well as publishing our own material. One of a kind and I feel privileged to work there. I’m only 39 and sometimes I wonder how I’ll ever beat this work- if I can’t I’ll probably be here until I retire!
