What’s your monthly budget?

Total HHI: $175k (I make $110k, my husband $65). MCOL city, mid-30s.

Monthly net: $7500. We max out his 401k/ my 403b, our Roth IRAs, and our HSA each year. Health insurance is $100/ month for both of us.

About $3,750 of our net goes into a brokerage account each month. We already have a healthy emergency fund so don’t add to this unless we’ve had to spend it (new hot water heater, I’m looking at you).

Our expenses are:

*Mortgage plus utilities (including internet): $1600 *Car insurance and gas: $120 *Groceries and dining out: $500 *Phone plans: $120 *Pets: $350 plus ~$50/ month in annual costs for exams, medications, etc. It’s high because dog does hydrotherapy and laser therapy for her arthritis. *Hobby/ discretionary money: $750. I admit, I usually spent 75% of this. *Miscellaneous expenses: ~$250 (sometimes more, sometimes less).

I also usually teach an extra class or two each year (I’m a university lecturer), and that additional ~$12k is what we use for travel or home projects.
