What’s your story on school fraternities/sororities?

I was recruited incoming senior year (4th year HS, before K-12), by a frat men not affiliated to any college/university. At first they were welcoming so I did push through initiation rites.

There were severals paddles but they made it sure I'm conscious at every hit. Once my body reached its limit, they put me on their "survival" training (which turns out to be worst, and had to go through it for a year).

Yes, I was voluntarily hazed. But it was "essential" to enstil commitment to the fraternity quickly. Don't get me wrong human rights advocates, it's the only way you can do it.

Fast forward to date, they helped me be the person I am today. Skills that outstands my classmates and brothers I can rely in time of need. And now working in a golden opportunity (referred by a brother), I just don't know where I'll be without them.

Though, joining one is still a personal and serious choice. Initiation rites is still part of it besides the laws against it. So OP, what's your reason why would you join?
