What is a sad reality that's never really discussed?

Pedophilia

That there's nothing wrong with Pedophilia, and it's just a sexual orientation. Child Molestation, on the other hand, is a vicious crime perpetrated by sex criminals. Being a Pedophile doesn't make someone a sexual predator, but the culture around Pedophilia is so heinous and taboo, that so many of these people spend their lives suppressing it and hiding it, seeking solace in CP and too often, by sexually assaulting helpless kids.

Now, that's not to say sexual predators are victims. Certainly not at all. Ultimately it's a choice you make. However, we can leave it at that, or we can actually address it as a society and try to fix it. Try to find ways to help these people so the ones that are eventually pushed to or seek the darker path never need to.

Unfortunately it's hard to find ways to do that without abusing childen (The way CP does). But I say we can either be uncomfortable about this and force those people into a life of secrecy, or we can confront Pedophilia itself as something people can't help, and enable these people to come forward and get assistance.

As someone who is about to have a daughter, I would rather see these people get help, and me know they're there and that my daughter is much safer, than I would prefer to just keep pretending like they're not there, force them to suffer, and then enable more of them to feel compelled into a life of crime for it just because we wanted to cover our ears and close our eyes to the reality of it.

It's totally understandable why people feel the way they do toward pedophilia. Be that as it may, we need to have a real discussion about it if we want to remove any impetus for them to abuse children.
