what scientific experiment would you run if money and ethics weren't an issue?

Extensive brain studies into understanding how are consciousness could be digitized.

Imagine if we could all accept the eternal abyss that is death when our bodily vessels give in, and we could invest in our own creation of a digital afterlife. Our minds could somehow be running somewhere in a datacenter, still enjoying things, connecting with other consciousness, undertaking activities and having access to new content.

Meanwhile people that are still in a "flesh" body live a life of a about 60 years, dedicated to making sure everything is okay. They live their lives almost religliously, as an offering to the heavenly afterlife. Their job is to make sure the hardware is safe and up to date, only to be uploaded when it's their time to go.

It's a long stretch, even if we'd do a lot really unethical research though..
