What seemingly normal product has the worst toxic fanbase of them all?

I feel like the entire game industry has become toxic, fans and devs alike. The consumers are awful for all the reasons you listed and even more. But things like the Fallout 76 debacle, the greasy micro-transaction model for payment, and whatever other ways they have of squeezing extra profit out of products while simultaneously draining them of heart and artistry are also really terrible, and legitimate reasons for players to complain. I'd be happy to pay 100, 150 bucks on a game (since I'm really only interested in a couple games a year) because it's easier for me to just save and then fork it up when I have to, than to subscribe and be bled over a period of months or years, or buy some kind of pass in advance for content I don't know if I'm going to like. I don't want a series to radically depart from form after three instalments because they're chasing a trend (that's already years old and getting stale) that they think will make more $$$. I don't want things being rushed to shelf when they're almost unplayable, and slowly patched until they're ok. I also don't want communities of preteens screaming profanity at me, swatting people, sending devs death threats on twitter because a character was female... Basically, everyone involved with and everything about gaming right now is an abysmal embarrassment.
