What should I know as a first year during move in day?

  • don't get overwhelmed, you'll feel the need to do everything at once. So will everyone else. Just settle in.
  • lend a helping hand. Easiest way to introduce yourself is by saying, "need some help with that? I'm so-and-so from down the hall"
  • first impressions stick. If you've got resting bitch face, go back to point #2.
  • you will feel nervous. SO WILL EVERYONE ELSE. Dont feel afraid to ask questions!
  • introduce yourself to the RA. Sure some of them are narcs, but they're students just like you, and want to make the most of their time there, just like you are. -there are TONS of available resources on campus, you just need to know what you're looking for, then who to ask (start with the RA, or the quad office; if you need help with classes, studying, a list of on campus groups and activities, or health/wellness resources, go here first!)
  • this is going to sound awfully patronizing, but it was a realization I made early: you're a grown up now. Mom and dad aren't here to ask for you. If you need something, you'll have to look for resources.

But the most important thing of all is, enjoy it. There is nothing like it, I promise you.
