What simple concept do too many people not understand?

I love going to the movies by myself. It drives me crazy when people give me a hard time for it. Obviously I'm always open to people joining, but I like to see a lot of independent and foreign releases that my friends aren't interested in. There's nothing like sitting in a dark theater for 2 hours, turning off my phone, and getting totally absorbed by a movie.

I actually PREFER going to the movies alone. I'm okay with going to mindless blockbusters with friends, but when it's a drama/thriller, I want to just LISTEN. I don't wanna have to pass the popcorn, pass the soda, "I wonder if she's liking this movie", etc. I want to just enjoy the goddamn movie.

Also, I don't understand why movie-going is a social thing. If I wanted to do something with friends, I wouldn't choose an activity where you sit in a dark room where you're not allowed to talk.

So when people feel bad for me for going to movies alone, I just tell them I feel bad that they can't find something better to do with their friends than sitting in a dark quiet room...
