What is slowly gaining popularity that most people don't know about yet?

You raise some good points, and I am baffled at how the U.S. is behaving again. I am not a bear and I don't often go around talking about collapse or doomsday, but the next few years in the U.S. markets are going to be wild. New numbers came out today. And U.S. housing debt has surpassed 2008 levels.

I work in real estate and I see people coming in with approval for $400K mortgages who are 25, just married out of college, with $150K in student debt and a combined income of $60K. There is no way in hell they can afford that. And baby boomers are rapidly beginning to downsize, die and simply move out of their own homes. The housing market is going to collapse again. And they just keep building luxury homes and apartments by the thousands in ever city and no one can afford them. It is going to be worse this time. Can the government just bail them out again?

If they are bailed out again it will prove to the general public that the U.S. dollar is meaningless. That the companies deemed to big to fail can simply just request more money be printed for them.

I have backed my own wealth with precious metals and real estate in many locations and this is why I am looking in to cryptocurrencies. I just can't pull the trigger on any of these because they just aren't done correctly for wide spread use. But I totally feel you on the why.
