What is socially accepted when you are beautiful but not accepted when you are ugly?

Not the exact same topic but it's a looooot easier to make friends when you're considered attractive. From childhood to about halfway through middle school I was this really nerdy kid who wore clothes that didn't fit or match and who didn't style his short badly cut hair ever. All of the other kids would treat me like shit and make fun of me every time I did anything. Fast forward to seventh grade, the scene phase was totally In and it was my first time actually following a fashion trend because I enjoyed scene music. By eighth grade I had great fitting skinny jeans, cool studded belts, emo band tees, pricy high top shoes (these were all necessary in the scene phase please don't crucify me for it now), and long Bieber-esque hair- which was also incredibly In. I went from not being able to make a single friend for so many years to suddenly having girls walk up to me telling me how attractive I was! Social life is far easier being attractive, all I had to do when I learned how to style myself was exist and I'd make friends.
