What is something most people need to hear but no one has the guts to tell people?

I get that "the sound of their own voice" wasn't the nicest way to frame it but you said exactly what I think they really meant: you're waiting for someone to finish talking so you can talk about you.

You'll get a lot better at listening when just waiting for your turn isn't your main objective. The way to show you're really invested in listening is to divest yourself of "your turn to talk about you." People feel heard when you engage with what they said, not when you wait for them to finish talking so you can talk about yourself. There's a time and place to transition the topic back to yourself but it's rarely immediately after someone says something about themselves.
