What is something that really pissed you off recently?

I had a traumatic birth experience in November. The hospital did many, many things wrong and played a role in my eventual c-section after 17 hours of an induced labor. I wrote a polite letter to the patient representative chronicling what happened, asking questions, and explaining things that I felt could be improved.

They did write back and acknowledge that several things were done wrong. But one of the other glaring examples was the way I was treated by an OB. She spoke to me so rudely and hatefully after she took over for my midwife (this is when it basically came down to "You have to have a c-section") that I honestly sat there and thought, "I feel like I can't trust this woman. It's either the midwife who didn't tell me about the problem, or the OB who is in effect blaming me for needing a c-section."

This is what you think when you haven't been asleep for 30 hours, you've just been threatened with dead baby unless you get a c-section, and someone is being an asshole to you out of no where. I explained that in my letter to the patient representative.

This was where they pulled out the classic non-apology of "We're sorry if YOU felt your experience was less than phenomenal," and totally bypassed the concerns I clearly outlined while explaining why I need to have a c-section. Yes, I know the REAL reason why I had to have a c-section. The point is a.) you have a doctor glossing over the real reasons b.) you have a doctor who is destroying any patient-doctor trust and c.) you have a doctor insulting patients she's never met.

Less than phenomenal. Like, "Oh, we're sorry your toast was a little bit burnt, you childish ninnypants." No, let's call it what it was, hospital: you barely took care of me, let complications go untreated, lied to me about the care I could receive ("Oh you can't get IV drugs because this person didn't respond,"), didn't tell me why you carted my kid off to the nursery for days and had nurses who either actively avoided me or in some cases refused to help me if I wanted to go to the nursery.

So, that really, really pissed me off when I got that letter back. I insta-tore it up.
