What is something that seems obvious to you but that other people don't seem to understand?

That science can be based on just as much faith as religion, sometimes. For clarity, I'm an atheist, but there's something about this worship of Dawkins/Harris/etc. and every scientific article ever published that is just delightfully ironic. First off, half of these pop-scientists are just that. They're good in their own fields, but they don't know a goddamned thing when it comes to philosophy. The existence of God, among other things, cannot be explained away by the good ole "well disprove that there's a teacup floating between the Earth and the Moon" statement. People have been discussing, debating, and working on this problem for a hell of a long time.

Separate but related: The faith in scientific articles and especially "statistics". Let's be clear, these things are created by people, they do not exist in a vacuum. The problem here is that nobody can be asked to look at the sources, nobody can be asked to do some critical thinking and examine how trustworthy a person/institution/etc. actually is. Now, this is inevitable, for the most part. The world is continually growing more complex, laypeople cannot be expected to have the time or energy to confirm every single thing they ever read. Now, if only they could be aware of that fact. Every time I see "well, the statistics say you're wrong!", I have to ask, which statistics? Most of the time they don't even bother to provide any, and when they do I frequently find that it's either one lone study or studies by disreputable sources or something else that tells me that the "Almighty Statistics" aren't as solid as you might think. Surely we can't forget this whole "vaccine = autism" shitstorm that's going on. That was started, at least partially, by a study that was published, then got carried all over the place before people realized the guy was full of shit.

Basically, always be aware that you could be wrong. I'm not saying you should just roll over when someone else comes knocking, but this new atheist, "muh science superior intellect" bullshit is obnoxious as hell. If science interests you that much, why not delve deeper into it? Hell, a lot of people would be well served by studying the philosophy of science. It is interesting, after all. You know all that time you spend telling religious people how they're all big stinky poo poo heads? Well use that time instead to educate yourselves. Then when you encounter a big stinky poo poo head, you can really lay the smack down on their asses and be confident in your own statements.
