What song got you into Modest Mouse?

Bankrupt on Selling. I loved the Float On video back when MTV stations were still playing music videos, but MM didn’t register as a particularly meaningful band any more than the likes of Frank Ferdinand and what not. Then one day I was driving with my brother and heard that song come on, and and it matched up so perfectly with what I was feeling as a college freshman.

Ever since then, Isaac has been my fucking spirit guide. They are by far my favorite band of all time, and I’ve found more solace in his lyrics than anything I’ve ever been exposed to before. I was raised by a Pentecostal pastor, so a lot of the atheistic themes resonate with me in a big way. Also, fuck capitalism and chain restaurants. I’ve always felt that way, but he articulates that sentiment so well.
