What is stopping game freak from creating Pokémon games with two regions like Gold and Silver

  1. Two regions does not necessarily mean twice the content. Like, if we assume Game Freak has a certain amount of resources to put towards making the map, having two regions is just going to mean each one is half the size. Kanto of Red/Blue is much more detailed than either region in Gold/Silver is individually.
  2. It kinda screws up the level pacing of the game. Every other game in the series has a progression from level 5 to ~50 culminating in the elite four. Gold/Silver instead has you beat the elite four halfway through the gametime, then spend a bunch of time messing around in Kanto where the level curve slows down immensely.
  3. The story pacing also gets majorly weird. The elite four are supposed to be the toughest of the tough but you beat them halfway through the game. You defeat Team Rocket like a third into your overall playtime.
  4. Firered and Leafgreen did have two regions: they added the sevii islands. Nobody really cared much about them though.
  5. The main reason it was cool in Gold/Silver is you visit the region from the previous game 3 years later and see all the old characters. If it just had two new regions nobody would really care. Unfortunately Kanto is probably the only region anyone cares enough about to want to revisit. If the next Pokemon game advertised that you got to go back to Galar do you think anyone would really care?
