What is a subtle sign that someone had a rough childhood? Why?

Here’s an odd/uncommon one that may arise in the context of trauma: sensory disturbances. I.e. allodynia (experiencing pain in response to a stimulus that shouldn’t cause pain).

When I was a preteen my skin started to feel like it was on fire exclusively when I made contact with other people (eg hugs). Unbearable pain, almost like touching a hot stove. It has gotten much much better with age, and I don’t experience it at all with people I know very well and trust (my husband, in-laws, and best friend of >10 years). With everyone else it’s mild enough now that I just sort of bite the bullet to avoid seeming antisocial or having to explain my weirdness.
