A lot of the soup kitchens are run by people who really care about other people so the food is quite good. The problem is the church kitchens often have a sermon for an hour before dinner. You won't need to purchase anything except a good razor and dental floss. I'm not sure why dental floss is so hard to get because it is more important than brushing. Summer time is a great time to be homeless in New York City. Free concerts in the park, movies Friday night in Bryant Park, ect.. The trick is to sleep in Central Park during the day. Super safe. Then head to the Village at night to hang out and talk with people. Nobody likes a beggar to don't be one. Make sure to remain clean cut. Most beauty schools offer haircuts for free. When winter comes and you need to get out of town, the Human Services department at any Diocese will give a bus voucher to any city in the United States if they can prove you have a place to stay there. They also have vouchers for Salvation Army so get one of those too. Dress like a preppy. So call a homeless shelter and say you have a job in that city. The homeless shelter will tell the woman in Human Services you have a place to stay.

When you are done being homeless go find which temp agency staffs the local sports stadium. For example, there is one a few blocks from the Super Dome in New Orleans. Once again make sure you are clean cut and are dressed like a preppy. Once you are hired to help clean up after Saints' game, work harder than anyone else. They usually hire a team of 10 people to work during the week. You also get to keep cell phones and money people have dropped. You can cash your check at the end of each day at the corner store. Your taxes are taken out of the check and the corner store get 10% which is like 3 something. Take your $30 and go to the local youth hostel. Now you have a job and a place to stay. Also if you're clean cut you will get laid at the hostel especially if it is in New Orleans.
