What toxic behavior has been normalized by society?

Treating every single military member like we're super brave heroes.

I dont wanna speak for a group as a whole, but it stresses me out a little personally. I earnestly appreciate that strangers recognize that my job is unique and appreciate me for doing it; but I am by no means brave or a hero. I'm an electrician. I have a slightly higher chance of dying than a civilian electrician, but not by too much. Anything I've ever done that could be seen as slightly brave was usually just stupidity.

Tbh, it makes me feel kinda bad because I know I'm not doing the things that person is so thankful for. But if I say dont thank me, I'm not that guy, I sound like a huge dick to someone who was kind enough to go out of their way to be nice to a stranger.

Idk, not toxic maybe, just a weird spot I feel like I'm in.
