What TV Can Learn From ‘The 100’ Mess

Lexa’s death (despite being well-performed by the actors) had little resonance and almost no meaning.

I completely disagree with that. I felt it perfectly fit into the story. We were being shown the original Commander, the original AI, how the Commander put it in her neck, how she got down to Earth, how the original "grounders" (survivors of the nuclear holocaust) found her and she most likely became their leader, with passing down the AI becoming a religion.

And at the same time we see the current commander die, we see a reveal that she has the AI in her neck, that it will be passed on to the next commander, etc.

To me this is all WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overblown and it is pretty sad, but I guess that is what happens when your fan base is mainly teens and people in their 20's, the majority probably female. The outrage and threats and lists of ways to boycott the show and all that...really? Over react much?

Was the death typical of TV? Yeah. Was it lame they had them finally sleep together and then she dies 30 minutes later? Ya. But I mean...that happens ALL THE TIME with straight couples too.

The actress couldn't film anymore episodes, she is on Fear The Walking Dead, what did you want the writers to do? How could they write out the commander in a way that has her survive? In one episode how could they write her death that would have been less offensive? Would you rather Clarke and Lexa not have slept together before she died? Would there not have been an outrage of

"WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE HAD THEM CONSUMMATE THEIR LOVE AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE YOU KILLED HER?!!?!?!!! BOYCOTT THE 100!!!!"

At the end of the day the actress couldn't film more episodes, I can't see how they could have gone forward without her dying, her dying moved the plot along by revealing to us she had the AI chip in her neck...I liked the episode, I am going to keep watching.

Just because ya'll hyped yourself up and fell in love with the gay coupling like they are real people and now hate the show for "tricking" you because one BTS photo was posted...I mean...really? Was it stupid of them? Sure. But maybe don't read so hard into this show putting your entire emotional state in its hands?

I have been watching a lot of TV for a while and I have never noticed gay or bi characters being killed off or being unable to live a full and happy life. Did I miss and it and it really happens? Sure. But the implication that it is somehow being subliminally put into our weak sheep minds that gay and bi characters can't live a happy long life or w/e...what?! Is that a thing?

It just seems like something is wrong with your life if your entire sense of self, of self esteem, of personal worth is tied to how a TV show treats a fake sci-fi post apocalyptic lesbian. Make go outside and talk to real people and build relationships with real people and so what happens on a TV show won't devastate you so hard and make you question everything and what not.
