What typically panned show do you enjoy?

What I don't get is how reddit hates TBBT but defends IT Crowd to the death.

TBBT sucks because it makes geeks out to be socially awkward stereotypes, but IT Crowd doesn't. Well, except for the time they had to use a website to learn how to talk to people... and that time that Moss wrote an email to the fire department. Those aren't making fun of socially awkward people, right?

At least it doesn't make fun of people for not being "normal" like TBBT. It's not like there was a joke about a character being separated out of their clique for being too weird. Well... Richmond.

But Penny is the main character that we're supposed to identify with and laugh at the stupid geeks and their lame interests. First, that's not Penny's boat role. Second, her role is pretty much the same as Jen's. Well that.. and also it's fun to make fun of the "normal" character for not understanding your niche culture.. like having her think the Internet is a box you can carry around. Fuck TBBT for making fun of how different geeks are, I'd rather watch IT Crowd so that I, a geek, can make fun of how stupid normals are (while also laughing at how different geeks are).

The only real difference is how Flanderized TBBT has become over the years. It's how network TV works. You take the concepts that work with the majority audience and you inflate them until you get something that broadly works for the most viewers so you can sell ads.

I bought into the bullshit for a time a few years ago. /r/community especially was leading a campaign against TBBT which ended up ruining my enjoyment for a while. Eventually, I got over it.

Reddit needs to learn that not all shows are high art, and most of the ones that aren't (and some of the ones that "are"), aren't really trying to be. On network TV especially, they're selling McDonald's, both literally and figuratively.

A lot of the time, after a long day at work, a stupid comedy is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. That's what network sitcoms are, and that's OK.
