What is the U.S. Space Force and what does it do?

I think people are confusing combatant commands (look up Unified Command Plan) with military services. Space Command is not at all the same as Space Force. While many Space Force personnel are in Space Command, it doesn't mean those are the same thing.

Combatant Commands fight. Military services man, train, and equip in accordance with their Title X responsibilities.

Space Force was a critical next step and our government was right to create it, despite the in efficiencies in the short term. China and Russia have weaponized EW, Cyber, Space, and Information Ops to a strategic level, while US has focused on the tactical effects of those domains.

More than anything, the law that creates Space Force also created the authorities to conduct more efficient space acquisitions.

While it's hard to imagine the "shoot them in the face" impacts of Space Force, it is easier to appreciate the "win left of the bang" capability Space Force is developing for the combatant commanders.
